Disclaimer: I am pleased to state the following statements. The many apparatus addressed in this page were acquired upon great helps from many professors in PNU. Without their helps and willingness to transfer, it is not possible to set-up the lab in this way.
Synthesis
Bulk synthesis
- A programmable box furnace (Max. working temp.: 1100oC) for flux growth and solid state reaction
- A custom-made programmable box furnace (Furnace R, Max. working temp.: 1350oC) for flux growth and solid state reaction
- Two programmable vertical furnaces (Max. working temp.: 1300oC) for Bridgman method
- A custom-made programmable vertical furnace (Max. working temp. 1100oC) for single crystal growth, i.e. TSSG method
- A programmable box furnace (Max. working temp.: 1400oC) (Daemyoung) for substrate treatments and sintering of polycrystalline specimen
- A programmable tube furnace (Max. working temp.: 1100oC) for various chemical reactions (forming gas, O2, N2, and Ar flow)
Film synthesis
- Physical Vapor Deposition System I: RF/DC magnetron sputtering system with three guns [Now reserved through QMCF]
- PLD & sputtering system
- Chamber is designed for other in-situ characterizations (RHEED & spectroscopic ellipsometry)
- Pressure: 1.0e-7 Torr and Max. working temp.: 850oC
- Thin films, superlattices, and alloy films of oxides and intermetallic compounds
- Nd:YAG pulse laser (Spectron Physics, 10 Hz)
- Laser power/energy meter (Ophir) for real-time monitoring of laser energy

- High temperature transport set-up: a custom-made tube furnace (RT ~ 800oC) - can be used for real-time observation of electronic phase transition and chemical reactions
- Microprobe system for real-time XRD & transport measurements (Proto-type, Nextron) (RT ~ 1000oC)
- Microprobe station (Nextron's MPS-PT) (-40oC ~ 200oC) [Now reserved through QMCF]
- Cryogenic dewar with 7 T magnet: Janis (SVM) and 622 superconducting magnet power supply (Under repair)
- Impedance: Hioki IM3533-01 (1 mHz ~ 200 kHz), Hioki IM3570 (4 Hz ~ 5 MHz)
- Source meter: Keitheley 2450, Keitheley 2400
- Voltmeter: HP34420A, Keitheley 6500, Keitheley 2000
- Lock-in amplifier: SRS 830
